Getz Pharma hosts launch of Dr Nauman Niaz’s book on Type II diabetes

KARACHI: Getz Pharma hosted the launch ceremony of Myth & Reality: Type II Diabetes & Disease Impact in Pakistan, a book authored by renowned physician and writer Dr Nauman Niaz, at the Astola Facility Auditorium on Sunday.

The event brought together leading figures from the medical fraternity, media, culture and public life for an evening focused on raising awareness about Type II diabetes, one of Pakistan’s most pressing public health challenges.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Nauman Niaz said diabetes should not be viewed merely as a clinical condition, describing it as a broader social, emotional and national challenge. He said the book aims to separate myths from realities surrounding the disease and encourage greater public understanding to help prevent its growing impact.

Addressing the audience, Getz Pharma Executive Chairman Khalid Mahmood said healthcare extends beyond medicines and includes education, prevention, access and sustained public engagement. He said Dr Nauman Niaz’s publication would make a meaningful contribution to the national dialogue on diabetes and appreciated the effort to combine scientific insight with public awareness.
According to the organisers, Type II diabetes currently affects nearly one in three adults in Pakistan, placing a significant burden on families, healthcare systems and communities across the country.

The ceremony also featured cultural performances and interactive dialogue, positioning the publication as both a health education initiative and a call for broader collaboration among healthcare stakeholders.

Getz Pharma stated that it remains committed to advancing healthcare innovation and awareness in Pakistan. The company noted that its manufacturing facility is pre-qualified by the World Health Organization (WHO) Geneva and approved by member countries of PIC/S and EAEU. It also claims to be the first and only pharmaceutical company in South Asia to achieve LEED Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
