KARACHI: The Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi Pakistan has held a significant meeting with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sabir Memon, Executive Director of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT), aimed at enhancing care and emergency management services for patients living with hemophilia and other rare bleeding disorders.

The engagement marks an important step toward strengthening advocacy-driven collaboration within the public healthcare sector, focusing on expanding access to comprehensive and multidisciplinary care at tertiary-level institutions.

Participants emphasized that coordinated efforts within government hospitals remain the most effective pathway to ensuring timely, structured, and sustainable treatment services for individuals affected by bleeding disorders.

During the meeting, discussions centered on the urgent need to integrate hemophilia management into public sector tertiary care hospitals, particularly in trauma and emergency settings where delayed intervention can result in life-threatening complications. The importance of ensuring immediate availability of clotting factor therapy was highlighted as a critical component in preventing severe bleeding episodes, long-term disabilities, and avoidable mortality.
The participants also underscored the necessity of capacity building and structured training programs for healthcare providers. It was proposed that standardized treatment protocols be introduced and reinforced through professional development initiatives, including collaboration under the World Federation of Hemophilia’s Medical Twinning Program, to strengthen institutional preparedness and clinical outcomes.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to developing sustainable models of care within government institutions to ensure equitable access to life-saving treatment and long-term rehabilitation services for hemophilia patients across Sindh.
