KARACHI: A delegation of 58 military officers from 26 friendly countries, led by Air Vice Marshal Amir Munir and accompanied by senior Pakistani officials, visited the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi on Tuesday.
Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Federal Minister for Science and Technology and Patron-in-Chief of ICCBS, along with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, welcomed the delegation to the center.
During a special ceremony at the Prof. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium, Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman highlighted ICCBS’s role in projecting a positive image of Pakistan in the field of science. He described the center as a national asset that promotes scientific research, capacity building, and international collaboration. He emphasized the importance of knowledge, science, and technology in shaping the global economy and warned that Pakistan risks falling behind if its higher education sector is neglected.
Prof. Muhammad Raza Shah briefed the visitors on ICCBS’s achievements, describing it as a leading research institution in chemical and biological sciences in the developing world. He noted the center’s work in natural products chemistry, molecular medicine, and structural biology, tackling key health and environmental challenges.
The delegation toured various ICCBS research facilities and appreciated the institution’s contributions to science and research.
