KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) observed Black Day today to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to mark the anniversary of India’s annexation of the disputed region.
Students, faculty, and staff members of the university wore black clothing to symbolize mourning and protest. The event began with a one-minute silence to honor the victims of violence and oppression in Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor of JSMU, said that as future custodians of health and humanity, students must raise their voices against injustice wherever it occurs. “Our voices will not be silenced in demanding the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir,” he stated.
A short theatrical performance by the Character Building Society depicted the hardships faced by Kashmiris under occupation.
Registrar Dr. Azam Khan and Principal of Sindh Medical College Dr. Ambreen Usmani also spoke on the occasion, reaffirming the university’s commitment to humanitarian and ethical values.
The event was jointly organized by Ms. Zohra Semeen, Director of Student Affairs, and Mr. Sohrab Zaman, Director of Administration.
