JSMU Strengthens Academic Governance, Inclusivity and Expansion at 38th Academic Council Meeting

KARACHI: Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, structured governance and social responsibility during its 38th Academic Council meeting held on December 30, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon and focused on a range of policy and academic reforms aimed at strengthening the university’s educational framework. Key decisions included the adoption of a standardized academic calendar across all programmes and the integration of concepts such as interfaith harmony, diversity and tolerance into academic curricula, reflecting the university’s emphasis on inclusive and socially responsible education.

The Academic Council unanimously approved the minutes of its 37th meeting, ensuring continuity in academic governance. Several agenda items were endorsed, marking progress in academic planning and institutional development.

Among the major approvals was the JSMU Assessment Policy for the Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) programme. The policy provides a structured framework for student assessment and aligns the programme with international standards in health professions education.

The Council also approved the launch of a new 1.5-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme for candidates with a business or commerce background. The detailed curriculum of the programme was reviewed and endorsed as part of JSMU’s strategy to diversify its postgraduate academic offerings.

To strengthen research oversight, the Academic Council approved the reconstitution of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB), a move aimed at improving the governance and promotion of research activities at the university.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon said the decisions taken by the Council reflect JSMU’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and responsiveness to evolving educational needs. Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Nighat Shah, who hosted the meeting, said the approved measures would significantly enhance the university’s academic and research infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by senior faculty members and organized by the Registrar’s Office. It concluded with a consensus to continue initiatives aligned with JSMU’s mission of leadership in medical and health sciences education.
