Mayor Karachi Inaugurates 29th Cardiac Unit in Gulshan-e-Hadid

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, inaugurated the 29th Chest Pain Unit (CPU) of the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (SICVD) in Gulshan-e-Hadid on Monday, reaffirming the Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) commitment to expanding healthcare access and improving quality of life across the province.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Wahab stated, “True development lies in improving public life. Gulshan-e-Hadid is a large and significant area at the border of Karachi, and with the establishment of this unit the 29th in Sindh and the 19th in Karachi a long-standing demand of the local population has been fulfilled.”

He emphasized that the new facility would play a vital role in saving lives during heart emergencies, significantly reducing the time required to reach critical care. “Previously, it could take an hour or more to reach NICVD. In heart-related emergencies, every minute counts. With this CPU, emergency treatment will be accessible at the doorstep,” he added.

The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, MPA Sajid Jokhio, Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the City Council Dil Muhammad, and other party officials.

Mayor Wahab praised the local leadership in Malir and the Union Council chairmen for their persistent efforts in advocating for improved healthcare in the area. He shared that a previously vacant KMC building had been transformed into this state-of-the-art satellite center, thanks to effective collaboration between public representatives and healthcare authorities.

“Institutions are not built just by constructing buildings, but by making them functional and effective. This CPU is a testament to that vision,” he said.

He further reiterated PPP’s commitment to equitable healthcare delivery, stating that the party’s manifesto emphasizes bringing medical facilities to underserved and remote areas.

In addition to the health-related announcements, Mayor Wahab also highlighted other development projects in the pipeline. He announced the inclusion of the Abdul Salam Soomro Park project in the upcoming budget, the near completion of a 50-bed hospital and an eight-lane flyover, and the ongoing construction of the Stock Exchange Parking Road by the provincial government. He also noted that resolving issues at Pakistan Steel Mills could significantly alleviate the water crisis in the region.

Commenting on national security, Mayor Wahab lauded the Pakistan Army for its firm and united response to Indian aggression, stating, “Whether on the battlefield or diplomatically, the nation stands proud of its armed forces. Pakistan is a peace-loving country that never bows to pressure.”

He concluded by reaffirming the PPP’s development vision under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, emphasizing that true progress lies in improving the quality of life through consistent investment in public services.
