Mayor Karachi Inaugurates Expansion Project of Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the expansion project of the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases (KIKD). Members of the City Council, the institute’s administration, doctors, paramedical staff, volunteers and other guests attended the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Karachi stressed the need to establish satellite dialysis centres in densely populated areas so that kidney patients can access treatment closer to their homes.

He directed stakeholders to identify three to four congested localities where satellite dialysis centres could be established during the first phase. He also suggested exploring the possibility of setting up a centre beneath the bridge in Banaras and identifying suitable locations in Landhi and Malir.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that if space was required in hospitals managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the institute should submit a formal proposal. He assured that KMC would provide suitable space and extend all possible cooperation.

“Instead of concentrating all facilities at a single location, establishing centres across different parts of Karachi will make healthcare more accessible and save patients from the difficulty of travelling long distances,” he said.

The Mayor described services for kidney patients as an important humanitarian and welfare mission, assuring support and encouragement to organisations and individuals working in this field. He also appreciated young volunteers for their commitment to serving society.

He invited all volunteers associated with the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases to visit KMC so that their efforts could be personally acknowledged and appreciated.

“KMC is a partner in this welfare initiative and will continue to extend every possible support to improve healthcare facilities for the people. We will work together to better serve humanity,” he said.

Mayor Karachi also paid tribute to the administration and organisers of the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases for their efforts in providing essential treatment and dialysis services to patients.
