Pakistan Medical Association Delegation Strengthens Ties with Chinese Counterparts

KARACHI: A high-level delegation of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has returned from a landmark visit to China, where it participated in the 110th-anniversary celebrations of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA). The trip was aimed at fostering closer professional collaboration and knowledge exchange between the medical communities of both countries.

Led by PMA Secretary General Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, the delegation included PMA President Dr. Izhar Chaudhary, Finance Secretary Prof. Shahid Shamim, and Prof. Ashraf Nizami. The team congratulated the new CMA leadership and reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing global health.

Speaking at the International Symposium on International Collaboration for Health, Dr. Shoro emphasized the need for strategic investment in healthcare. He candidly highlighted the disparities and challenges in Pakistan’s health system, attributing the crisis to insufficient interest in public well-being. He called for unified national and international efforts to improve outcomes and ensure equitable access to care.

Dr. Shoro also praised the CMA’s exemplary role in providing medical services to underprivileged communities and underscored the importance of such initiatives in building a fairer, more inclusive society. PMA expressed gratitude to the CMA for hosting the delegation and providing a valuable platform for dialogue and future cooperation.

Discussions between the two associations focused on continuous professional development for doctors, advanced training, and skill enhancement to match global medical advancements. Both sides agreed to explore joint training programs, workshops, and symposiums to promote the exchange of medical expertise, research findings, and best practices—benefiting healthcare systems in both Pakistan and China.

The PMA termed the visit a significant step toward stronger Pakistan–China medical partnerships, paving the way for joint initiatives in medical research, education, and public health.
