ISLAMABAD: In a renewed push toward eradication, the World Health Organization and Pakistan’s Polio Eradication Initiative have mobilized more than 400,000 frontline workers to immunize approximately 45 million children nationwide.
The campaign, conducted in early February, focused particularly on high-risk and underserved regions to close immunity gaps. Pakistan has reduced polio cases by over 99 percent since the 1990s, yet sporadic transmission of wild poliovirus continues to pose challenges.
Health authorities maintain that sustained door-to-door vaccination drives, coupled with community engagement, remain essential to achieving complete eradication and safeguarding future generations.
