ISLAMABAD: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has won the 18th Annual CSR Award in the waste management category, earning national recognition for its efforts to modernise municipal waste collection and disposal systems across Sindh.

The award was received by Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani at a ceremony held at Serena Hotel Islamabad. The honour was presented by Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi during the event, which recognised around 70 national and multinational organisations in various categories including sustainability, environmental protection and community welfare.

Addressing the ceremony, Tariq Ali Nizamani outlined the board’s gradual rollout of modern waste management systems in Karachi and other urban centres of Sindh. He said contemporary urban waste management concepts were being introduced to improve efficiency in collection and disposal, while efforts were under way to promote responsible waste handling practices among citizens to reduce the volume of organic and recyclable waste reaching landfill sites.
He said that with the deployment of modern machinery and operational systems, more than 50 percent of the nearly 30,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated daily across Sindh was now being collected and disposed of in a scientific manner. He added that the collection capacity was being expanded to ensure wider coverage and improved efficiency in the coming months.
Reaffirming the board’s commitment, he said the organisation would continue working to strengthen sustainable waste management practices and contribute towards a cleaner and greener Pakistan.
The award recognises the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board’s role in promoting environmental protection and improving urban sanitation standards through modern waste management initiatives.
