SHCC, Sindh Ombudsman Agree to Jointly Handle Medical Negligence Complaints

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) and the Office of the Chief Provincial Ombudsman Sindh have agreed to work jointly to ensure timely redressal of complaints related to medical negligence across the province.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between a delegation of SHCC, led by its Chief Executive Officer Dr Ahson Qavi Siddiqi, and Chief Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Muhammad Sohail Rajput at the Ombudsman’s office. Both sides agreed that complaints related to medical services received by Ombudsman offices would be formally referred to SHCC for investigation and decision, in line with its statutory mandate.
The meeting noted that both SHCC and the Ombudsman’s office function as quasi-judicial bodies, and that closer coordination was necessary to avoid duplication and improve service delivery.

The Ombudsman informed the meeting that his office, which operates through 19 regional offices across Sindh, received around 25,000 complaints during 2025, most of which were resolved.

Chief Ombudsman Muhammad Sohail Rajput assured full cooperation in strengthening SHCC’s complaint redressal mechanisms, including guidance and support in developing an online complaints management system. It was also decided that the Ombudsman’s office would convene a meeting of regional Ombudsmen, during which SHCC officials would brief participants on the commission’s scope, mandate, and procedures.

Dr Ghulam Yaseen Veesar, Director HR&A at SHCC, along with Abdul Waheed and Arshad Alil, also attended the meeting.
