SHCC steps up HIV prevention efforts in Kemari after suspected case

KARACHI: The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) has launched immediate action following the report of a suspected HIV case at Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital in Kemari District.

A team led by Dr. Zubair Soomro, Director of Anti-Quackery at SHCC, held a coordination meeting with Deputy Commissioner Tariq Chandio and his team to strengthen healthcare regulation, disease prevention, and enforcement measures across the district.

The meeting addressed serious concerns regarding the illegal de-sealing of unlicensed medical outlets and emphasized the need for sustained government action against quackery. It was agreed that SHCC, the DC Office, SSP Kemari, and the District Health Officer will jointly inspect public and private hospitals. A district-wide crackdown on unqualified practitioners will also be launched, with FIRs to be registered immediately against violators.

The Deputy Commissioner assured full administrative and police support to SHCC under the directives of the Sindh Minister of Health, adding that Assistant Commissioners will accompany SHCC’s Anti-Quackery teams during field operations.

Later, SHCC’s inspection team visited Valika Hospital to review infection prevention and control (IPC) practices, patient safety standards, waste management, and safe injection protocols, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to curbing HIV transmission and ensuring quality healthcare delivery in Sindh.
