KARACHI: The Sindh Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has reported continued encouraging trends in environmental surveillance for poliovirus across the province.
According to the Sindh EOC, out of 29 environmental samples collected in June, only one sample tested positive for poliovirus, while 21 samples were found negative and seven are currently under process. The positive sample was detected in Karachi East, while no other positive environmental samples were reported from Sindh during the latest surveillance round.
The Sindh EOC announced that the next Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) campaign will be conducted across all districts of Karachi from 6 to 12 July. Parents have been urged to welcome and cooperate with polio teams visiting their homes and ensure that children receive vaccination.
Families have also been advised to rely only on verified sources for polio-related information and avoid misinformation. For any queries regarding a child’s vaccination, parents can contact the Sehat Tahaffuz Helpline at 1166.
The Sindh EOC highlighted that the peak poliovirus transmission season has begun, during which conditions remain favourable for the spread of the virus. Population movement continues to be a key risk factor for transmission.
The provincial authorities stated that Sindh has made significant progress in reducing poliovirus circulation through strong community support, extensive vaccination activities, and collective efforts of frontline workers and government partners.
Ahead of the high-transmission season, two nationwide polio campaigns and one special booster-dose campaign were conducted in 2026, achieving high coverage across the province.
The Sindh EOC reiterated that polio eradication remains a top national priority and efforts will continue with full commitment until the virus is eliminated everywhere. The organisation thanked frontline workers for their continued dedication in protecting every child from poliovirus.
