Sindh Medical Association demands psychological evaluation of Sindh Secretary Health

KARACHI: The Sindh Medical Association (SMA) has voiced serious concerns over the conduct and public dealing approach of Sindh’s Secretary Health, Mr. Rehan Baloch.

In a press statement, the SMA said it has received repeated complaints from health professionals and members of the public alleging that Mr. Baloch persistently avoids meeting visitors, displays an uncooperative attitude, and causes unnecessary delays in resolving genuine matters.

Citing repeated instances of such behavior and an apparent unwillingness to engage in normal administrative interaction, the SMA has formally demanded a comprehensive psychological evaluation of the Secretary Health. The association urged the Chief Minister of Sindh to appoint an impartial board of qualified psychiatrists to assess Mr. Baloch’s mental fitness for holding such a critical public office.

Referring to the British Civil Service Code, the SMA noted that it was once standard practice for certain government officers to undergo periodic medical and psychological assessments to ensure their fitness for service. The association called for the revival of such safeguards in the interest of good governance and public service.

The SMA also announced plans to obtain regular video footage and attendance logs from the 6th floor of the Health Department to document the number of citizens and health professionals who wait in vain to meet the Secretary Health, alleging that he often departs without meeting them.

The statement was issued by Dr. Javaid Mughal, Information Secretary of the Sindh Medi
cal Association.
