Sindh Records 93pc Coverage in Ongoing February Polio Vaccination Campaign

KARACHI: Sindh has recorded strong mid-campaign progress in the ongoing February 2026 polio vaccination drive, with overall household coverage reaching 93 per cent across the province, according to officials. The performance reflects coordinated efforts by district administrations, frontline health workers and partner organisations to vaccinate children under five years of age.

Health authorities said most districts have achieved more than 90 per cent household coverage, indicating effective planning and implementation. Remaining gaps have been described as limited and are being addressed through targeted follow-up activities to ensure that all missed children are vaccinated before the campaign concludes.

In major urban centres, including Karachi and Hyderabad, coverage levels are continuing to improve as follow-up teams intensify outreach in selected localities. In Karachi, household coverage has currently reached 88 per cent, with district-level teams carrying out focused actions under strengthened supervision to reach remaining children.

Officials noted that poorly covered and missed areas across Sindh are confined to a small number of union councils, allowing for precise and timely follow-up. District administrations have been instructed to deploy additional vaccination teams where required and to ensure uninterrupted field operations to close remaining gaps.

Parents and caregivers whose children may have missed vaccination have been advised to contact the Polio Helpline at 1166 so their children can receive polio drops during follow-up activities.

Authorities reiterated that no child should be left unvaccinated and said catch-up activities during the remaining days of the campaign will prioritise children who were unavailable or missed earlier. These efforts are being supported through close monitoring and coordination at both provincial and district levels.

The Government of Sindh reaffirmed its commitment to protecting every child from polio and acknowledged the efforts of frontline health workers, community mobilisers, security personnel and partners contributing to progress toward a polio-free Sindh.
