KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, chaired a high-level meeting to review the progress of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, with a commitment to include the vaccine as a permanent part of the province’s routine immunisation programme.

The meeting was attended by representatives of civil society organisations, Indus Hospital, Aman Foundation, HELP, the Federal Directorate of Immunisation, and Oxford Policy Management. Participants discussed the ongoing vaccination drive, outreach strategies, and awareness efforts to protect young girls from cervical cancer.
Dr. Azra Pechuho appreciated the efforts of all partner organisations for their performance, saying that the Sindh government, through close coordination with civil society, is advancing its public health goals successfully.
She said that the HPV vaccination campaign had successfully reached girls aged 9 to 14 years, marking a historic milestone for the province. Dr. Pechuho reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen vaccination and awareness programmes across Sindh.
The minister emphasised that cervical cancer prevention remains one of the government’s top public health priorities. She directed stakeholders to ensure equal vaccine access in all districts and adopt modern communication and community mobilisation techniques to encourage parents to have their daughters vaccinated on time.
Dr. Pechuho said the Sindh government is working with federal agencies, donor organisations, and civil society partners to implement an effective and sustainable strategy for cervical cancer prevention, ensuring no girl is left unprotected.
