KARACHI: The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Pakistan (SOGP) has officially withheld the notification of its recently held elections for the 2025–2027 term due to serious concerns over the integrity of the electronic voting process.
According to a press statement issued by the SOGP Election Committee, the society's elections were conducted via an e-voting system on May 31, 2025. However, multiple reports of technical glitches, procedural anomalies, and objections raised by members, contesting candidates, and observers have prompted an immediate review.
“The Election Committee has initiated a thorough investigation to examine all technical, procedural, and operational aspects of the voting process,” the statement read. “In the interest of transparency and fairness, the formal declaration of results will remain suspended until the inquiry concludes.”
The decision underscores growing scrutiny over the use of digital platforms for institutional elections in Pakistan’s healthcare community, where issues of access, reliability, and impartial oversight continue to be debated.
In the interim, the current SOGP Governing Body will remain in office and continue to function in full capacity. The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to upholding democratic values and institutional integrity, assuring members that the findings of the inquiry will be made public and the election results announced thereafter.
SOGP, one of the leading professional organizations in maternal and reproductive health, plays a vital role in guiding national policy, clinical practices, and medical education. Any disruption or delay in its governance transition is expected to be closely watched by both medical professionals and health policy stakeholders.
The society has called for patience and continued trust from its members as the investigation proceeds.
