KARACHI: Ayesha Mahmood, President of FAiTh - Fight Against Thalassemia and a dedicated activist in the fight against Thalassemia, has passed away at the age of 38 after battling multiple health complications and infections. She was under treatment at a private hospital for several days.
Widely known as the “Iron Lady” for her courage and resilience, Ayesha Mahmood devoted her life to supporting thalassemia patients and their families. Having personally faced the challenges of the disease and losing her brother to thalassemia nearly 15 years ago, she transformed her personal grief into a lifelong mission of service.
She established a 100 percent free thalassemia treatment center, where more than 200 registered children were provided with medical care and support. Her efforts brought hope and dignity to countless families struggling with this lifelong condition.
Ayesha Mahmood also maintained close association with Help International Welfare Trust, contributing to various initiatives aimed at awareness and patient support.
She was the maternal aunt of Muhammad Hammad Memon, General Secretary of FAiTh. Her passing has left the thalassemia community in deep grief.
Her death is being termed a significant loss for the thalassemia community, with her humanitarian services and legacy expected to be remembered for years to come.
