UNICEF and Bilal Maqsood ‘Bachpan Bemisaal’ series early childhood development World Children’s Day

KARACHI: On the occasion of World Children’s Day, UNICEF and renowned artist Bilal Maqsood unveiled Bachpan Bemisaal, an innovative four-part series designed to champion Early Childhood Development (ECD) — the cornerstone of a child’s health, learning, and overall wellbeing.

Jointly conceptualized under the Pakkay Dost banner, Bachpan Bemisaal brings scientific concepts to life through storytelling and music, using relatable characters, local humour, heartfelt songs, and meaningful narratives. The series highlights the essential role of responsive caregiving, love, nutrition, hygiene, play, and early stimulation in shaping stronger and healthier brains in young children.

Aimed at reaching millions of parents, teachers, community educators, and young audiences across Pakistan, the series translates evidence-based guidance into engaging and practical content — reinforcing the message that nurturing care does not require wealth, but awareness and intention.

“Bachpan Bemisaal is about changing how we see childhood,” said Bilal Maqsood. “Every child deserves love, play, and attention, and if we give them that early, the impact lasts for generations.”

“Child rights are not abstract principles. They are lived realities. They exist when a child is safe, healthy, learning and loved, and they are absent when children face poverty, exclusion, violence or limited opportunities,” said Melissa, Chief Programme Section, UNICEF Pakistan.

Dr. Saba Shuja, Early Childhood Development Manager at UNICEF Pakistan, emphasized the long-term impact of investing in ECD, stating: “Early Childhood Development is one of the smartest investments a country can make. When children receive care, nutrition, and stimulation in their earliest years, they grow up healthier, learn better, and contribute more meaningfully to society.”

The launch event brought together youth parliamentarians, educators, health professionals, media representatives, and young voices — reflecting a powerful and diverse group of emerging advocates for children’s rights and wellbeing.

Blending creativity with public health communication, Pakkay Dost’s Bachpan Bemisaal sets a new standard for how early childhood messages are delivered — making care, connection, and compassion the building blocks of a stronger and more inclusive nation.
