KARACHI: In a deeply saddening development for the healthcare community, veteran nursing leader and President of the Pakistan Nursing Association (PNA), Sardar Ghulam Dastagir Odhano, has passed away. He was widely regarded as a pioneer of the nursing profession in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, and played a foundational role in organizing and strengthening the nursing community.
Sardar Odhano was known for his lifelong commitment to advocating for the rights of nursing professionals through structured and collective platforms. As a founding figure of the Nursing Federation of Pakistan in Sindh, he provided direction and leadership that helped shape nursing as a recognized and empowered profession. Many of today’s nursing leaders were mentored and guided under his leadership, reflecting his lasting influence on the field.
He also made significant contributions to nursing education by establishing nursing schools in Shikarpur and Jacobabad, creating opportunities for countless students to pursue professional careers in healthcare. Despite facing numerous challenges throughout his journey, he remained steadfast in his mission to uplift the nursing profession.
Colleagues, students, and members of the healthcare sector have expressed profound grief over his passing, remembering him as a dedicated leader, mentor, and teacher whose services will always be remembered.
The funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be offered on Saturday, April 4 after Zuhr prayers at Jamia Masjid Shaheed Makhdoom Bilawal, Scheme 33, near Kiran Hospital, Karachi. He will be laid to rest in Sachal Goth.
