KARACHI: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) organised a public awareness session titled “Live Well With Diabetes – Track. Treat. Thrive.” to mark World Diabetes Day, underscoring the alarming reality that more than one in four adults in Pakistan is living with diabetes.

The programme drew healthcare professionals, students, and members of the public, offering expert guidance, interactive learning opportunities, and complimentary health assessments. The initiative aimed to empower individuals to understand, manage, and prevent diabetes and its complications through timely information and accessible screening.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Qamar Masood, Consultant and Section Head of Endocrinology at AKUH, said that diabetes remains one of Pakistan’s most pressing public health challenges. He stressed that greater awareness and regular screening can help people take control of their health and prevent complications before they develop.
The session featured expert talks, a Q&A segment with AKUH specialists, live exercise demonstrations, and practical dietary advice focusing on balanced, culturally adaptable meal plans to regulate blood sugar levels. Specialists highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, lifestyle modification, and consistent treatment adherence as key strategies to prevent serious health complications.
To support immediate evaluation and awareness, AKUH provided free on-site assessments including Blood Glucose and HbA1c tests, cholesterol and blood pressure checks, and measurements for BMI, waist circumference, and body fat composition.
The initiative reflects AKUH’s continued commitment to community well-being by raising awareness about critical health issues and supporting individuals living with diabetes and related conditions.
