Commissioner Karachi orders all hospitals and clinics to display polio awareness messages

KARACHI: The Commissioner Karachi Division has issued directives to all public and private hospitals and clinics to actively support the upcoming National Polio Eradication Campaign by displaying awareness messages on LED screens and broadcasting official voice announcements from October 6 to 19, 2025.

According to the official notification from the Commissioner’s Office, the national campaign against polio will begin on October 13, 2025, as part of the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard children’s health and eliminate poliovirus from the country.

Hospitals and clinics have been instructed to:

  • Display approved polio awareness messages on their LED screens.
  • Broadcast approved voice-over announcements through their public address systems.

However, several private hospital and clinic administrations have expressed concerns, stating that installing large LED screens and running continuous awareness messages is beyond their budget. “We don’t have sufficient funds to install big LED displays and operate them for several days,” said representatives from some private medical facilities.

Meanwhile, officers from the Commissioner’s Office have started sending voice messages and reminders to hospital officials, directing them to immediately display and record polio awareness content on LED screens. Non-compliance with the instructions may result in administrative action against clinic owners, medical superintendents, or administrators.

Officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential for the success of this national campaign, which aims to protect every child from the crippling disease. The Commissioner Karachi’s office has reiterated that the initiative is a vital part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to ensure a polio-free future and strengthen child health nationwide.

The government has also decided to intensify eradication efforts in all major cities, including Karachi, urging citizens to participate actively and ensure every child receives the polio vaccine during the campaign.
