HWSK facilitates key dialogue on expanding access to hemophilia non-factor therapies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi (HWSK) convened a high-level advocacy meeting during the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) Global Congress 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together government officials, international partners, and healthcare stakeholders to advance access to modern hemophilia treatment in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Dr. DureNaz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, Lutz Knabe, Global Partner for People Living with Bleeding Disorders at Roche, Raheel Ahmed Khan, Founder and CEO of HWSK, Abbas Ali, Coordinator HWSK, along with representatives from Roche Pakistan.

The engagement aimed to establish a constructive dialogue between the Government of Sindh and Roche to explore sustainable pathways for improving patient access to non-factor replacement therapies, which are increasingly considered a breakthrough in hemophilia care.

Discussions focused on developing long-term strategies to enhance availability of innovative treatments, building a collaborative framework between the public sector and industry, and identifying practical approaches to expand treatment access at the district level across Sindh. Participants also highlighted the role of HWSK as a key facilitator in bridging gaps between policymakers, healthcare providers, and global partners.

Stakeholders emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to address existing challenges in treatment accessibility, particularly for underserved populations, and underscored the importance of sustained partnerships in achieving improved health outcomes for people living with bleeding disorders.

The meeting is being viewed as a significant step toward establishing a structured and long-term collaboration model that could improve the quality of life for hemophilia patients across Sindh.

HWSK reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy and partnership-driven initiatives aimed at ensuring equitable access to care for all patients.
