KARACHI: A comprehensive symposium on poisoning was held at the Najmuddin Auditorium of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Thursday, bringing together leading medical experts to discuss clinical management, legal aspects, and psychological dimensions of poisoning cases.


The event was organized by Ward 5 of the National Poisoning Centre in collaboration with the Pakistan Society of Physicians and was described as highly informative and impactful by participants.


Prominent speakers delivered detailed presentations on various aspects of poisoning. Prof Dr Abdul Rab shared insights on demographic outcomes of poisoning cases, while Dr M Omer Sultan spoke on acute poisoning management and emergency response protocols.

Dr Sumayya highlighted the medico-legal implications associated with poisoning cases, emphasizing the importance of documentation and legal procedures. Prof Dr Chuni Lal addressed the psychological perspectives, focusing on mental health factors and preventive strategies.

An expert panel discussion further enriched the session, with valuable contributions from Prof Dr Masoor, Prof Dr Rukhsana Abdul Sattar, Prof Dr Iqbal Afridi, and Prof Dr Riaz.

The symposium was attended by the Executive Director of JPMC, Prof Dr Khalid Shair, who graced the occasion as chief guest. Other notable attendees included JED Dr Sulman and Dean JPMC Prof Dr Haleema.
The session concluded with a call for strengthened clinical preparedness, inter-disciplinary coordination, and public awareness to effectively manage and prevent poisoning-related incidents in Pakistan.
