NICVD and frere hall glow red to mark world heart day 2025

KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), in collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), lit up both the NICVD building and the historic Frere Hall in red on Sunday evening to mark World Heart Day 2025 and raise awareness about cardiovascular health.

The event, themed “Don’t Miss a Beat,” featured a grand Family Health Fest at Frere Hall where citizens received free health check-ups, fitness guidance, and heart-health consultations. Interactive stalls, children’s activities, and live musical performances added to the festive atmosphere aimed at promoting preventive care and healthier lifestyles.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, addressing the gathering, urged people to adopt heart-healthy habits and praised NICVD’s leadership in preventive healthcare. “Creating awareness about heart health is key to reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease,” he said, assuring KMC’s continued support for such community initiatives.

NICVD Executive Director Prof. Tahir Saghir reaffirmed the institute’s mission to provide free, world-class cardiac care and emphasized early prevention and regular screening. He also announced the successful completion of 1,000 cardiac MRI procedures at NICVD Karachi—a milestone celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony and presentation of a souvenir to Prof. Sabha Bhatti, head of the imaging department.

Renowned singer and social activist Shehzad Roy entertained the crowd with a special musical performance and highlighted the need for heart-health education in families and schools. Prof. Khawar Abbas Kazmi, head of preventive cardiology at NICVD, encouraged citizens to maintain balanced diets, exercise regularly, and undergo periodic screenings.

The illuminated Frere Hall and NICVD building served as powerful symbols of unity against cardiovascular diseases, drawing large crowds and reinforcing the message that small lifestyle changes today can protect hearts and ensure healthier futures.
