ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Population Summit 2025, organised by the Dawn Media Group in collaboration with national and international development partners, concluded today in Islamabad after two days of high-level deliberations on the country’s demographic challenges and future planning. The summit brought together more than 60 prominent experts, including policymakers, economists, public health specialists, academics, parliamentarians and representatives from development organisations.

The discussions centred on the urgent need to develop an evidence-based national strategy aimed at stabilising Pakistan’s fast-growing population and ensuring sustainable economic progress. Speakers underscored that effective population management is directly linked to economic stability, improved human development indicators and long-term national prosperity.
Day one of the summit featured sessions on restoring population balance by 2050, aligning demographic trends with economic goals, understanding regional population dynamics and responding to the country’s deepening human development crisis. Experts stressed strengthening family planning services, improving access to quality education and ensuring political ownership as essential steps toward achieving demographic stability.
The second day focused on population as a social and ideological responsibility, rapid urbanisation, women’s empowerment and the critical role of federal communication ministries in shaping public awareness. Provincial representatives shared updates on their respective population initiatives while highlighting the need for better coordination, improved resource allocation and data-driven planning mechanisms.
Throughout the summit, participants emphasised women’s education, reproductive health services and informed choice as the core pillars of effective population management. They further called for strengthened provincial accountability frameworks and sustained advocacy at both community and policy levels.
The summit concluded with a collective call to action urging federal and provincial governments to jointly implement a unified demographic roadmap. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Pakistan’s transition toward a stable population, resilient economic growth and a more prosperous future.
