KARACHI: Sindh has reported its second fatality from the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus this year. The latest victim, a 38-year-old male resident of Korangi district, was admitted to a local hospital with high-grade fever and bleeding symptoms. His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he passed away on June 18, 2025.
Health department officials confirmed the diagnosis through laboratory tests conducted at the JPMC Virology Laboratory. This follows the first reported death earlier this week of a 42-year-old man from Malir district.
With Eid-ul-Azha approaching, health authorities have issued warnings and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of the Congo virus, particularly among individuals handling sacrificial animals. Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures, including the use of protective clothing and insect repellents, and to report any symptoms such as sudden fever, muscle pain, or bleeding to nearby health facilities.
CCHF is a tick-borne viral disease with a high fatality rate and poses serious public health risks, especially in livestock-handling regions.
