SSWMB to Sign MoU with NKATI for Modern Waste Management System in Karachi’s Largest Industrial Zone

KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) is set to introduce a modern and integrated waste management system in the city’s largest industrial zone, marking a significant step toward cleaner and more efficient services. The initiative follows the visit of SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani to the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), where he met NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan and other office-bearers.

During the meeting, key discussions were held on establishing a comprehensive waste management framework for the North Karachi Industrial Zone. It was agreed that SSWMB will strengthen waste management services by ensuring regular waste collection from factories, conducting sweeping operations twice daily, and providing mechanical sweeping, washing services, and water bowzer support as needed.

The MD stated that the board is setting up a dedicated operational system for industrial areas to ensure an efficient, transparent, and uninterrupted waste management mechanism. He emphasized that industrial waste will be responsibly collected and transported directly to the Jam Chakro landfill site, as improper disposal is damaging both the environment and underground water resources.

NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan appreciated the initiative, saying the partnership will enhance cleanliness standards in the industrial zone and promote environmentally friendly and healthy industrial operations. He added that joint efforts will help create a sustainable and cleaner environment in the area.

In recognition of the efforts to improve industrial sanitation, NKATI presented a commemorative shield to the SSWMB Managing Director. Both organizations agreed to formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon, after which the project will officially begin.
