KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh has demanded an immediate revision in salaries and allowances for healthcare workers across the province, warning that failure to address the issue could lead to intensified protests and disruption of medical services.
In a statement issued on Sunday, YDA Sindh said that doctors and healthcare employees were working six days a week under difficult conditions during the ongoing healthcare crisis, but their current salaries were insufficient to meet rising economic challenges.
The association called for a 50 percent increase in total pay for all health employees and urged the Sindh government to immediately revise stipends for House Officers and Postgraduate (PG) trainees.
According to the demands, the stipend for House Officers should be increased from Rs69,000 to Rs100,000, while salaries of PG trainees should be raised from Rs100,000 to Rs150,000.
YDA Sindh also demanded that all existing ad-hoc allowances be merged into the basic pay scale. It further called for revision of the Medical Allowance to 50 percent of the current basic pay and the Conveyance Allowance to 45 percent of the current basic pay.
The association warned that if the demands were not accepted, protests would be expanded across Sindh. YDA leaders said the government must prioritize healthcare professionals who continue to work tirelessly in emergency and casualty departments.
